The process of tattooing by the robot has a few steps. A 3D scan of the target area is performed, a mock-up of the desired tattoo is created using custom computer software, and then the robot gets to work while the recipient stays very, very still. Apparently the most difficult part of the project was adapting the robotic arm to work on uneven surfaces of the human body. The robot is sponsored by Autodesk and designed by two French designers Pierre Emm and Johan da Silveira. Since industrial robotic arms are very precise the end result is a very neat and accurate tattoo.
