Giant pandas safe from immediate extinction

Pandas safe from being wiped out?! Heck yeah! It’s a good day to be a panda, according to Ginette Hemley, senior vice president for wildlife conservation at World Wildlife (WWF).

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), an organization that keeps track of the population of plants and animals reported that the decrease in the population of Giant Pandas has been stopped and an increase has been observed. There are currently 1864 adult Giant Pandas in the wild which shows a 17% increase since 2004.

But for this growth to be maintained, bamboo forests, the natural habitats of Giant Pandas, need to be protected from depletion due to climate change and other emerging threats, like decrease in the quality of their habitats, need to be kept under control.
